Biographical sketch:

I´m originally from Mexico City; both my parents are doctors so I´ve been involved with medicine all my life. Since childhood I knew what I wanted to be, a Doctor. I decided on a specialty when I became involved in the practice of high-impact sports, that´s when I discovered the importance of orthopedics to improve the quality of life for people, who due to their activity or age suffer from a number of orthopedic conditions.

I communicate with my patients by all means available: cell phone, email and social networks. I´m a very active person, I like to wake up very early and schedule surgeries at 7 am.

Gratefully, most of my patients come to me thanks to referrals from other satisfied patients of mine; I believe this is the best form of promotion I could wish for.

The nurse (Iris) and the physiotherapist (Erika) you arranged to visit me daily after I was released from the hospital were very attentive, caring and helped my recovery dramatically. As you are aware, I was walking, without aid of a cane or walker 4 days after the surgery and up and down stairs by day 6. ORTHOPEDIC PROCEDURES

Hip Replacement

Hip replacement surgery, also called Total Hip Arthroplasty, involves removing a diseased hip joint and replacing it with an artificial joint, called prosthesis. A surgical procedure is performed in which the hip joint is replaced by a prosthetic implant. Hip prostheses consist of a ball component, made of metal or ceramic, and a socket, which has an insert or liner made of plastic, ceramic or metal. The prosthesis replaces the hip joint, replacing both the acetabulum and the femoral head. The prosthesis is made to resist corrosion, degradation and wear. Hip replacement is typically used for people with hip joint damage from arthritis or an injury. Followed by rehabilitation, hip replacement can relieve pain and restore range of motion and function of your hip joint.

Total Knee Replacement

Total knee replacement is a very predictable operation, it has very good results for patients looking to improve their quality of life due to knee pain resulting from different causes like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and other illness that are limiting daily life activities.

Knee replacement and knee cartilage replacement are commonly referred to as the same procedure. The knee itself is not replaced, only the damaged cartilage and bone ends. Knee replacement implants include a metal alloy on the end of the thighbone and polyethylene (plastic) on the top of the tibia and underneath the kneecap. The implant is designed to create a new, smoothly functioning joint that can prevent painful bone-on-bone contact. In a partial knee replacement one part of your knee joint is replaced. In total knee replacement damaged cartilage and bone from the surface of the knee joint is replaced with a man-made surface of metal and plastic.

Arthroscopy

Surgical procedure in which arthroscopy is performed through small incisions using a camera to visualize the inside of a joint. Through several small incisions (about 1 centimeter each) your surgeon will insert a camera into one incision, and small instruments through the other incisions. Such surgery generally is conducted to relieve minor arthritis pain or snapping syndrome.

Meniscal Tear is a rupturing of one or more of the fibrocartilage strips in the knee. It’s commonly called ‘torn cartilage’ in the knee. Meniscal tears are among the most common knee injuries. A partial meniscectomy is performed to remove only the torn segment of the meniscus. Arthroscopic surgeries allow re-approximating of the torn edges of the meniscus to allow them to heal in their proper place and not get caught in the knee causing the symptoms to reoccur.

Biographical sketch:

The complexity of the human body, observing and studying it and how it works has always been interesting to me. Medicine is an always evolving profession as we understand more about the origin of disease. I continuously need to be updating and studying in order to have a proper practice. I’ve always enjoyed helping others so when the time came, the branch of medicine that caught my attention was surgery, because it´s vital and its results can be achieved in the short term. The satisfaction of healing a patient will always be the best part of the success of contemporary medicine.
It´s important to have personalized communication with every one of my patients, for this I text messages to some, others prefer using email and more recently I have also integrated social networks. Never the less I still prefer when they visit me at my office for more personalized attention.

I treated a 24 year old female patient who suffered from morbidly obesity. After being married for a few years, she and her husband wished to have children, but she had fertility problems and had received several treatments without success. She came to me after her gynecologist suggested considering options to combat her obesity problem with the added interest in improving her hormonal profile and thus achieve their goal. We carried out preoperative studies, psychology evaluation, nutritional and internal medicine studies to confirm her as a candidate for bariatric surgery. After a Gastric Sleeve operation she is now at her ideal weight and currently has a beautiful new born child, grateful and very happy. This fills me with delighted for helping her reach these goals.

Digestive Disorders Procedures

SINGLE PORT LAPAROSCOPIC GALLBLADDER REMOVAL

Cabo Health Travel medical specialists are now offering Single Port Laparoscopic Gallbladder Removal. This means that only ONE incision is made thru the umbilical scar without the need for additional incisions providing a completely scarless surgery.

SINGLE PORT OR SCARLESS LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY

A number of surgical procedures can be done thru a single incision at the umbilical scar (belly button). This surgery allows for excellent cosmetic results providing the same safety and efficacy of laparoscopic surgery that requires additional incisions. At the end of the procedure there will be no visible scar. Currently single port surgery is well accepted by the Medical Community for the performance of hernia surgery, gallbladder removal, appendectomy (removal of the appendix) and miscellaneous gynecological procedures.

GASTRIC BAND PLACEMENT

The Lap Band is a gastric band that is used by the doctor post surgery to fill or remove saline in the band to help maximize weight-loss success. The procedure is minimally invasive.

GASTRIC SLEEVE

Gastric Sleeve Surgery, also known as Gastric Sleeve Resection or Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG), is a restrictive type of weight loss surgery that permanently reduces the size of the stomach, 60 to 80 %. It promotes weight loss by limiting food intake, lessening the sensation of hunger. It does not involve intestinal rerouting or food malabsorption. It is particularly indicated for individuals with a high body mass index (BMI greater than 40) and/or with health conditions that make them unacceptable candidates for other procedures.

GASTRIC BYPASS

This is bariatric surgery for weight loss by restricting the amount of food that can be eaten and by limiting the amount of food that is absorbed into the body. It has a significant component of malabsorption (bypass of the intestinal tract), limiting fat absorption which seems to augment and help maintain long-term weight loss.

LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY(GALLBLADER REMOVAL)

Gallbladder Removal

Laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder or Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure that is performed using laparoscopic visualization of the gallbladder and surrounding structures. This technique requires only a few small incisions be made in the abdominal wall. The gallbladder is removed through one of the small incisions.

GASTRIC SLEEVE PLICATION

Gastric Sleeve Plication is relatively new weight loss option where the stomach restriction is carried out with the use of pure non-absorbable surgical sutures. The gastric capacity is diminished without the removal of stomach tissue and without foreign implants. Plication does not cause any food intolerance or impair your dietary habits. There is no loss of stomach tissue.

HERNIA REPAIR – UMBILICAL

Umbilical Hernia Repair is the mending of the protrusion of soft tissues through the umbilical scar (navel). A Herniorrhaphy is one type of hernia repair where the surgeon makes an incision in the abdomen and pushes the protruding intestine/tissue back into your abdomen, then repairs the weakened or torn muscle by sewing it together. The other repair is a Hernioplasty which is something like patching a tire. The surgeon inserts a piece of synthetic mesh to cover the umbilical area. The patch is usually secured with sutures, clips or staples. Hernioplasty is done laparoscopically, using several small incisions rather than one.

INGUINAL HERNIA REPAIR

Inguinal Hernia Repair is the repair of the protrusion of soft tissues through the inguinal canal. A Herniorrhaphy is a type of hernia repair where the surgeon makes an incision in the groin and pushes the protruding intestine/tissue back into your abdomen, then repairs the weakened or torn muscle by sewing it together. The other repair is a Hernioplasty, which is something like patching a tire. The surgeon inserts a piece of synthetic mesh to cover the entire inguinal area, including all potential hernia openings. The patch is usually secured with sutures, clips or staples. Hernioplasty is done laparoscopically, using several small incisions rather than one.

COLON RESECTION-LAPAROSCOPIC

This is a non-invasive surgery of the diseased colon. Several small incisions are made in the abdomen, one for the laparoscope which is attached to a camera that sends images to a video monitor. The other incisions are used to insert instruments to hold or manipulate tissue in the abdomen. The diseased portion of the colon is identified and carefully dissected and removed.

Cosmetic Dental Oral Rehabilitation

Centers and Institutes:

  • Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (1987-1991).

Biographical sketch:

I’m part of a multidisciplinary group of dental specialists providing qualified and experienced advanced dental care to all our patients.

Originally I wanted to be a medical doctor, not a dentist. Many people told me that it was very difficult to be a dentist. Once I began working I discovered that many patients were fearful of dentists, disliked the noise, the needles, the pain and even the price. Once I acquired experience, things got much better. The job isn’t easy but I love it.
All materials used at my dental clinic are of the finest quality, hygienic and disposable. I receive great joy when I’m able to transform the life of my patients by giving them back their smile. At times I work twelve hours a day, 5 days a week and enjoy every minute of the day. The hours just seem to fly by.

If a patient needs to talk to me or is in pain, I will interrupt whatever I’m doing and reply via cell phone, email or inbox. Resolving my patient’s problem is important to me. It’s pretty easy to make an appointment, our secretary is the best, she manages the phones, emails and our facebook as well. At times we provide care to entire families with very high aesthetic expectations. This can be a challenge, but it’s so great to see the whole family smile together.

Years of professional experience helping patients smile with confidence and feel proud of how they look.
I make it a habit to carefully explain to my patients what we´re going to be doing during their procedure and why. I suppose this comes from the years I spent as a teacher at the School of Dentistry at Mexico´s National University-UNAM , times I enjoyed immensely .

I personally stay in contact with my patients taking advantage of all new communication technologies such as text messages, e-mail and social networks. I treat patients in a personal way talking to them about many different issues, family, personal tastes or current affairs; I strike up a friendship with most of them. Some invite me to their special events like weddings, birthday parties or to play golf. Many have shared with me that my work on their teeth has changed their lives returning their confidence to smile and feel proud of how they look. David Curtis, Janice Thorosky are prime examples or Guillermo Garcia whom I met as a patient and have a long standing friendship that has been strengthened over the years and his teeth are still looking great.

DENTAL PROCEDURES

Your smile communicates a lot about how you feel about yourself. Even a minor flaw in your smile can keep you from feeling your best about the way you look. In the past, we had few options to improve teeth that were chipped, stained or crooked. Now every smile can benefit from a wide range of new cosmetic dental techniques.

Cosmetic dentistry is a blending of art and science. With a focus on esthetic results using a variety of the latest restorative techniques and materials, our dental team can enhance your smile to give it a more pleasing appearance.

Root canal treatment corrects disorders of the nerve (also call the pulp) of the tooth. It used to be that a tooth with a diseased or infected nerve had to be removed. In 95 percent of the cases today, this is no longer true, we believe in saving teeth (instead of remove them). We make every effort to help you keep your natural teeth for a lifetime!

What happens during treatment?

If we determine through x-rays and a clinical examination that root canal treatments is necessary, we will schedule a series of appointments for you. It is important that you keep these appointments to prevent delays in outcome. It’s also essential that you take all antibiotics and medications prescribed to accelerate healing and reduce swelling.

Throughout your root canal treatment you may have questions or concerns not covered here. We will make every effort to ensure your comfort during root canal treatment and are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Our goal is to help you preserve your natural teeth for a lifetime, so you can smile with confidence.

DENTAL BRIDGES

Dental Bridges are like implants and partial dentures, to replace missing teeth. The fixed partial denture restores the missing tooth and improves both appearance and function of the mouth. There are several procedures available: conventional fixed bridges, cantilever bridges and resin-bonded bridges.

COSMETIC BONE GRAPH

Cosmetic BoneGraph is a cosmetic dentistry specialty where bone grafting is used to add bone where needed. This not only gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width, it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and esthetic appearance. Adequate bone structure may not be available due to previous extractions, gum disease or injuries. Major bone grafts are typically performed to repair defects of the jaws as a result of traumatic injuries, tumor surgery or congenital defects.

DENTAL BONDING

Per tooth, a term used to describe the process of permanently attaching dental materials to the teeth using dental adhesives and a high intensity curing light.

COMPOSITE BONDING

Composite Bonding usually is an ideal and less expensive solution for people with chips, gaps between the teeth, staining and discoloration, slight crookedness and misshapen teeth. The composite material may be directly applied and sculpted to the surfaces of teeth that show most prominently when you smile. For minimally invasive smile makeovers.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY CROWNS

Per tooth procedure for a dental crown or “cap”, a procedure used to restore a tooth that would otherwise be in danger of breaking. It covers and protects the entire tooth, replacing the entire chewing surface of the tooth. Materials used are porcelain fused to metal, all porcelain ceramic or zirconia and gold metal.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY VENEER

A porcelain veneer is indicated when a portion of the front surface of the tooth needs a “face lift”. Similar to composite bonding, veneers are attached directly to the existing tooth structure. We treat the surface of the tooth with a special conditioner to prepare it to receive the veneer. A tooth-colored liquid bonding material is then applied to the tooth surface to help the veneer adhere.

Veneers are also used to cover stain and close spaces between teeth.

DENTAL IMPLANTS

Artificial tooth root replacements that are used as a part of prosthetic (artificial replacement) dentistry in order to compensate for tooth loss. Implants are found to be functionally effective and durable. Implants offer a permanent solution to tooth loss. Additionally, implants may be used in conjunction with other restorative procedures for maximum effectiveness. For example, a single implant can serve to support a dental crown replacing a single missing tooth. Implants can also be used to support a dental bridge for the replacement of multiple missing teeth, and can be used with dentures to increase stability and reduce gum tissue irritation.

ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE

Root canal therapy refers to a process by which a dentist treats the inner aspects of a tooth, specifically that area inside a tooth that is occupied by its ‘pulp tissue. Sometimes the pulp becomes infected and when this happens, it must be removed with root canal therapy. A root canal is the only way to save the tooth. A mature tooth can survive very well without the pulp.

WHITENING

Whitening or tooth lightening refers to restoring a tooth’s surface color by removing dirt and debris. The process involves the carefully controlled use of a relatively high-concentration peroxide gel, applied to the teeth by the dentist or trained technician after the gums have been protected with a paint-on rubber dam. The peroxide remains on the teeth for 15 to 20 minute intervals that add up to an hour.

WISDOM TOOTH SURGICAL EXTRACTIONS

Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth — the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of your mouth on the top and bottom.

If a wisdom tooth doesn’t have room to grow (impacted wisdom tooth), resulting in pain, infection or other dental problems, you’ll likely need to have it pulled.

PERIODONTAL SURGERY (GUM DISESASES)

When gingivitis is not treated, it can advance to "periodontitis" (which means "inflammation around the tooth"). In periodontitis, gums pull away from the teeth and form spaces (called "pockets") that become infected. The body's immune system fights the bacteria as the plaque spreads and grows below the gum line. Bacterial toxins and the body's natural response to infection start to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place. If not treated, the bones, gums, and tissue that support the teeth are destroyed. The teeth may eventually become loose and have to be removed.

The face is our calling card .

For some people this reflection may cause dislike by inheritance, aging, birth defects or the product of previous facial trauma. Very often these changes in appearance are accompanied by functional changes so it is not uncommon for a crooked nose malfunction , drooping eyelids that can reduce the visual field or an aesthetic alteration that produces a psychological disorder or poor social adjustment .

Many of these conditions can be corrected surgically , with special attention to correct the aesthetic problem , without neglecting the functional aspect . The purpose is to achieve the best aesthetic and functional results in a natural way .

A facial plastic surgeon is an experienced professional who focuses on the face, improving health and welfare for the patient, and restoring function and appearance thru surgical procedures.

I have always liked helping people. As a young man I thought about the vulnerable position people are in due to illness and how I could serve by being a doctor.

I use to be in touch with my patients by phone, email and now social media.

I´ve had many successful experiences handling patients in therapy and at our outpatient clinic. One I remember fondly was a young patient who was seriously ill and in intensive care. After three weeks hospitalized, the patient recovered and was virtually reborn. One is constantly reminded of how vulnerable we really are, and that life can be lost at any time. Observing the full recovery of this patient and the work of all those who intervened with their care was very rewarding and satisfying. For several of us it was inevitably to shed a tear once the young patient was discharged after days and nights of all our dedicated care.
